2 Types of Pyrography Stamps – Easy to make and use

There are two types of PYROGRAPHY STAMPS for doing artwork. The metal ones that come as burning tips, and the ones that you burn or curve out from wood. In today’s article, I will help you understand how both types of stamps work for pyrography.

Metal Stamps

How to Make

  • Plan first what stamp you are going to make
  • Make a 3D design with a CAD
  • Feed the design into the CNC metal cutting machine
  • Take a metal plate or a metal block a bit larger than the final shape
  • Put it in the vise
  • Start carving it out with the CNC machine
  • Or you can do it manually via a lathe machine, here dexterity of operating a lathe will make a big difference in the outcome
  • Make spiral hole or groove to screw the stamp with the shaft and handle and it is done

How To Use Metal Stamps

  • This type of stamp can be bought online or from stores, meaning they are ready for use. Or else, you can make it yourself, it is stated above. A real fun project it is!
  • They are like pyrography pen tips. So all you have to do is secure the stamp on the pen like any other pen tip.
  • Once the pen stamp heats up, you can burn wood with the stamps.

Wooden Stamps

How to Make

  • Take a few wooden blocks and sand the surface if there are raised grains.
  • Use a pencil to draw the design you want to transform as a stamp. The design should be a mirror image of what you want to print.
  • After that, heat up your pyrography pen and start burning the outer edges of the drawing.
  • Burn in a way so that the stamp area remains raised above the rest of the surface.
  • If there are other details on the inner part of the stamp, make sure to burn them more carefully with a cutting tip.

How To Use Wooden Stamps

  • Make sure the stamp surface is clean. If not, the stamping may not work perfectly.
  • To transfer the stamp design, you will need chemicals. I usually prefer heat activated chemicals that will leave the burn marks of the design once exposed to hot gun air.
  • Spread some paint over a disposable paper plate and get the paint on the stamp design from there. You can also do it by using a paintbrush and painting over the design.
  • If it is a larger stamp, you can use a small foam roller to spread the paint over the stamp.
  • Now, you can easily transfer your stamp design to whatever material or item you have chosen, such as wood, fabric, leather, paper, etc.
  • You can choose to burn over the transferred design or just keep them as they are.
  • You can paint the transferred designs with the pyrography marker ( having heat activated chemicals) and blow hot air to reveal the burns. This article tells you in detail about burn markers.

Conclusion

Stamping by pyrography is a quick and easy way to propagate fixed designs. People use stamping on paper, leather, food for company branding (marketing). This gives an excellent and aesthetic look in the products.
